Gandhinagar, Sep 6 (IANS) Hearing on a petition filed by imprisoned suspended Gujarat police officer N.K. Amin to turn approver in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh killing was Monday put off by a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court till Sep 14.

Suspended deputy superintendent of police Amin is himself an accused in the staged shootout killing.

The adjournment of the matter came as the case has being referred to the Gujarat High Court for deciding the constitutional validity of Amin's plea.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate A.Y. Dave had referred the matter to the high court after some of the accused in the case opposed Amin's plea for becoming an approver and raised questions about its constitutional validity.

The court said it did not have powers to decide the constitutional validity of Amin's application and referred it to the high court.

During the arguments, lawyers representing eight accused, including another police officer D.G. Vanzara, raised questions about the constitutional validity of Amin's plea.

The court said further hearing on Amin's plea would take place after the high court decides the constitutional validity of his application.
