New Delhi, Sep 6 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit has been chosen for the first Mercy Ravi award for outstanding social and political contribution by a woman.

The award, instituted by the Mercy Ravi Foundation, carries a cash prize of Rs.one lakh and a citation.

The foundation announced Dixit's name Sunday, on the first death anniversary of the former Congress leader and member of Kerala Legislative Assembly Mercy Ravi, wife of Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi.

The award will be presented to Dixit at a function after finalising a convenient date.
