Rechipo – Dull and Predictable

Starring: Nitin, Ileana, Bhanuchander, Ahuti Prasad, MS Narayana, Sunil, Tanikella Bharani and others

Director: Paruchuri Murali

Music: Mani Sarma

Release date: September 25, 2009

The film Rechipo raised the expectations of the audience with the pairing of Nitin and Ileana. Nitin is desperately looking for the elusive big hit. Let us see how far he has succeeded with Rechipo.

Story:

Siva (Nitin) is an orphan. He grows up to be a thief but he is good at heart. He steals money from the rich and distributes it among the poor and the underprivileged like Robin Hood. Police commissioner Bhanuchander knows Siva very well and he actually encourages him indirectly. One day, Shiva steals 500 crore from the house of home minister Ahuthi Prasad’s house. The money belongs to a dreaded gangster Sukoor who operates from Dubai. It has been collected from cricket betting in India.

Siva meets Krishnaveni (Ileana) and falls in love with her. She does not reciprocate immediately. Krishnaveni is shocked to earn that Siva is a thief and that he has stolen 500 crore from his father. So she leaves him and goes away to Dubai. She is kidnapped by Sukoor as she arrives in Dubai. He calls up Ahuthi Prasad and asks him to return the money and also release four of his accomplices who are lodged in various jails.

Ahuthi has no option but to obey Sukoor as Krishnaveni is none other than his daughter. So he pleads with Siva to go to Dubai and rescue his daughter. The rest of the film is how Siva manages to outwit the villain and bring Krishnaveni back home safely.

Performance:

Nitin plays the part of an orphan to perfection. He is good in the first half an hour or so. After that he falls into a routine pattern and carries out his role as per the demands of the script.

Ileana is okay but she does not seem to be in her best elements. The famed Ileana charm and sex appeal are missing in Rechipo. She also does not share a good chemistry with Nitin and this in turn affects the output of the lead pair.

Bhanuchander is decent as a police officer. Ahuthi Prasad is routine so is Rama Prabha. The comedy track between Sunil, Suman Shetty is boring. Venu Madhav appears in a brief role while Raghu Babu tries his best to evoke some laughter and succeeds only partly.

The music and the songs are just average. The cinematography is good and the production values quite high.

The film begins on a right note but loses steam after some time. The predictable plot and screenplay and the slow pace of the movement of the story test the patience of the audience. The editing is poor and the film is very long – two hours and 50 minutes.

Rechipo ends up as a below average entertainer.
