The film Raju Maharaju raised the expectations on account of the star cast – Sharawanand, Mohan Babu and Ramya Krishna. The film managed to get decent opening on account of the star cast. Let us se if the expectations of the audience have been met.

Story:                                                                                                                 

Kalyan (Sharawanand) is a rich spoilt brat. He is the younger brother of a rich businessman Chakravarthy (Mohan Babu). Mohan Babu and his wife Ramya Krishna love Kalyan so much that they even treat him like their own son. Sharawanand is so spoilt by their blind love and the riches that he does not have time to reciprocate their love and he behaves like an irresponsible young man wanting to have his way all the time.

Kalyan falls in love with Tashu Kaushik but she is exactly opposite him in all aspects. She naturally rejects his love. Kalyan harasses her for rejecting his love by making her fail in the exams and also gets a potential groom who comes to see her sacked from his job. He also causes irreparable damage to his love prospects by driving rashly and causing the death of her father. He expresses no regret for his act.

It is now time for revenge. Tashu Kaushik asks Mohan Babu to transfer all his property in her name in order to take back the case against Kalyan. Mohan Babu, Ramya Krishna and Kalyan come on to the streets as a result. Another girl Survin Chawla is in love with Kalyan but he does not reciprocate her love.

Mohan Babu also has a business rival in Jayaprakash Reddy. He and Tashu Kaushik are now determined to ruin the family of Mohan Babu. How they come out of the mess and whether Kalyan is reformed is the story that must be watched on the screen.

Performance:

Sharawanand is the hero but his role is very badly etched. He does not get a chance to show his real acting caliber. Nowhere ahs the director tried to test the acting kills of Sharawanand. He does not impress. Mohan Babu and Ramya Krishna make a god pair and they do justice to their roles. Mohan Babu does not mouth his trademark dialogues and he is rather subdued in the film. Jaya Sudha makes a brief guest appearance in the film.

Tashu Kaushik does a good job in her negative role and also exposes a lot in some song sequences. Survin Chawla is average but does a hot song and also another one that is almost an item song. Jayaprakash Reddy is routine. Brahmanandam, Sunil and other try to evoke some laughter but succeed only in parts.

The music is average and the story and screenplay are also routine and predictable. Raju Maharaju is a family drama with heavy sentiment and little action. The film has very limited appeal and it is also too long, almost three hours. The film will only appeal a bit to those who like family drama and heavy sentiment. For others the film has very little to offer and can be safely given a miss.
