Pistha

Star cast: Vishal, Shreya, Prakash Raj, Ali and others

Directo: Sabari Ayyappan

Music: Mani Sarma

Release date: 29 May 2009

Vishal comes up with Pistha and promises a novel fare, quite different from what he came up in Salute. The film raised the expectations of the people but has it really lived up to the expectations? Let’s take a look.

Story:

Murali Krishna is a simple guy from a small town. His elder brother runs away from home during his childhood because his mother thrashes him for getting a tattoo of a girl Meenakhsi on his chest. Now Murali Krishna promises his mother (Geeta) that he will return home only with his elder brother. The hero reaches Visakhapatnam and stays in the flat of his friend Ali.

Murali Krishna then starts searching for his friend and in the meantime meets a girl Indu (Shreya). Vishal falls in love with her and after wooing her for some time manages to make hr fall in love with him. .

There are two dreaded criminals in Visakhapatnam, Prakash Raj and another guy called Guru. While Prakash Raj controls the port and is involved in all kinds of nefarious activities, Guru has his way in the real estate business.

Murali Krishna finally finds his brother but he is not the RDO that he is believed to be but the dreaded gangster Guru. Vishal is caught between the two rival gangs and it is now up to him to save his brother and take him home safely.

The rest of the story is how Murali Krishna manages to convince Guru to quit his nefarious activities and return home.

Performance:

Vishal plays a soft natured guy who is cool and calculated. He also restrains himself from doing big fights and bashing up goons at te drop of a hat. His new soft role may not appeal to his fans but it is indeed a good experiment. Vishal does justice to his role. Shreya is used only to add some glamour to the film. She sizzles in some revealing costumes and is generally okay in her role.

Prakash Raj plays the dreaded gangster but he fails to carry the ole with conviction. The role requires ruthlessness but it does not come across effectively from Prakash Raj. Ali tries to do some comedy but it is just average. Tanikella Bharani is also wasted as the sidekick of the villain. MS Narayana, Telanagana Shakunthala, Geeta and others are adequate in their roles.

Music by Mani Sharma is okay and a couple of songs, including a fast beat song are good and neatly picturized.

The film Pishta is very slow in the first half and it is no better in the second half either. The average story and screenplay coupled with average direction makes the film an average fare.
